A couple more upcoming events Byrd mentions are: Sew Ankara Week (July) and KISS (Keep it Simplicity Sis)

Below are photos of Byrd’s clothing makes we talked about in this episode. I am obsessed with the coats and jackets that Byrd makes! Byrd has a great eye for fabrics and her hand made wardrobe looks like very high end couture…and it is because she made them!

Check out Byrd’s instagram to see more of her handmade clothing. (See links above).

Notes from Stephanie on Sewing Clothing:

If you feel like you could never make these clothing patterns OR if you think you do not want to deal with the fuss and muss with making clothing, try a simple project like pajama pants or a simple dress with 5 or less pattern pieces.

One of the many takeaways from Byrd is to be fearless with your sewing projects. This was a nice reminder for me. I used to be a ball of anxiety about having to use the seam ripper, cutting into nice fabric, and making mistakes. Since then, I have come a long way - I love my seam ripper! I look forward to cutting my pretty fabric in anticipation of making a project. I do make mistakes, but now it is not the end of the world - I can fix mistakes, and make beautiful clothing for me that fits and expresses my personal style.

My challenge to you (and myself!) is to make a clothing project for yourself. Where to find a pattern with excellent instructions? My personal recommendations are: Cashmerette patterns, Simplicity patterns, New Look Patterns, Helen’s Closet patterns to name a few. Also, check out Byrd’s YouTube channel to find inspiration for patterns you may be interested in making with her live and/or tutorials.

Until next season, Happy Summer Sewing everyone! Don’t forget to take time to Make and Decorate for YOU!
