If you think hand stitching and hand quilting is not for you, I urge you to give it another try. I used to think hand stitching was too slow and old fashioned. That’s what sewing machines were made for, right ? I just wanted to zoom the fabric through the machines and make everything. I still want to make everything, but I now have a real appreciation and love for hand stitching, hand embroidery, hand mending and the list goes on.

Heidi Parkes has been an inspiration to me with hand quilting and making art quilts. Heidi hand quilts in an effortless way with not fancy equipment like hoops, frames and needle-rocking techniques. You only need a hand needle, thimbles and thread.

Over the past several years, Heidi has honed her art and has had her art quilts in museum galleries, teaches hand quilting and yoga at QuiltCon, opened her online shop with art and on demand classes. This year she had more teaching events and upcoming in January she will be teaching a Quilt Diary class. Her 2023 travel quilt class in France trip sold out the day registration opened. We talk about all of this and more in this episode.

Chit Chat: Recap of my Meet and Greet with Arne & Carlos

Due to a longer guest segment, I opted to keep the chit chat segment short on this episode. Aside from the time change into winter darkness and winter weather here in Chicago, I mainly chat about my Meet and Greet with Arne and Carlos at the Wool & Co yarn shop in Elgin, IL. Chicago was the first stop on their North American tour. It was indeed a great honor for me to meet Arne and Carlos in person! It was a bit surreal at first, but I savored every moment of that event. I give a quick recap of the event in Chit Chat.
