S4 E75: Decorating a Cozy Home, plus Sewing and Knitting updates
Decorating a Cozy Home
In this episode, I talk about how you can create a cozy home. When the cool weather of Autumn arrives, I immediately want all the warm and cozy foods, beverages, candles, and furry blankets and quilts of course…and now knitting!
I have five layers that are important to think about when you plan to decorate or refresh your home with a cozy look and feel.
Walls: colors have psychological influences that cause certain emotions with people. Choose a color that makes you feel comfortable, warm and happy.
Floors: Keep wall to wall flooring simple, as it is a background color and anchors the rest of the layers of furniture, window treatments and accents in the room.
Furniture: Invest in the best quality you can in large upholstery pieces and beds. If you plan to keep the furniture for a long time. If you choose classic styles, the furniture will never look dated (unless you upholster in a trendy fabric).
Window Treatments: aside from wall color, window treatments make a huge visual difference in a room. There are so many benefits of doing window treatments, like draperies and shades. Window treatments provide functional benefits in addition to an aesthetic wow factor. Window treatments can save on energy bills, insulate from cold or heat, and provide privacy.
Accents: This is a very fun and personal layer to decorating a home. Area rugs are considered accents, and can be very colorful and patterned. Pillows, decorative accessories, lighting and wall decor are part of the final layer that finishes a room.
Footnote: I found a lot of information on color psychology on the Colour Affects website.
CHIT CHAT: QUILTING, SEWING AND KNITTING UPDATES
This is the thick linen check fabric I talk about in the podcast. It is a beautiful fabric and presses very well and drapes well too. It is just very difficult to sew on the bias. I cannot wait until this project is completed so I can put another WIP project on the work table.

Knitting Needles I Love
I have tried metal, bamboo, resin, you name it, knitting needles. These Knit Picks wooden circular interchangeable knitting needles are my favorite. The swirled colors of the needle is so pretty and fun to knit with. I got the Majestic color which is a purple, indigo and teal color palette…my colors! I really think all of the colors they have are pretty, but the majestic is my fav. These needles hold the yarn well, yet doesn’t grip the yarn too much so you can easily keep the rhythm of your knitting. An added plus, the price point is reasonable.
